..The area known as "Wagner's Point" was named after Martin Wagner, who moved his cannery there from Boston Street in 1896. In 1937, the City of Baltimore opened the "Patapsco Wastewater Treatment Plant" on a tract of land along the waterfront of Wagner's Point.
..In 1952, the National Board of Fire Underwriters had recommended that Engine Company 49 be relocated, and either have a new station built, or have a new boat built with living accommodations on board.
..After several prospective landlords turned down offers by the City, it was decided that a new Fireboat, with living accommodations on board would be built for Engine Company 49, and they would be relocated on City property, along the bulkhead of the Patapsco Wastewater Treatment Plant at Wagner's Point.
..On August 22, 1958, Engine Company 49 moved aboard their Fireboat, "Mayor Thomas D'Alesandro, Jr.", and moved to the new location at Wagner's Point. After living aboard the boat for a year, living conditions were proving to be less than desirable, and on August 3, 1959, the Company occupied a one-story metal-clad station house on shore, adjacent to their berth, on what had been known for years as "Tyson's Wharf".
..On December 1, 1971, a downsizing of the Marine Division commenced when Engine Company 49 at Wagner's Point was disbanded. The station and dock were discontinued by the Fire Department, and shortly thereafter demolished by the City. The surrounding area was filled in for expansion of the Wastewater treatment plant, which was suffering growing pains.
